Atty. Adel A. Tamano

A New Era in PLM History

The selection of Atty. Adel Tamano and his subsequent investiture to the position of the 7th PLM President ushers in a new era in the history of the University of the City. Tamano is young, energetic an opposition leader, and a Muslim, characteristics never yet seen listed in the qualifications of PLM Presidents. His taking over the helm of the University brings with it new ideas, energy and hope for the faculty, employees, and the students of the institution.

Barely four months since his assumption of the Presidency in August 2007, a stream of development programs for PLM has already been implemented. He has made known his desire to adopt measures that provide academic and administrative benefits “so that the students, and employees can perform at their best.”

  • Public Accountability through Transparent Leadership

A Tamano Story
The son of the late Senator Mamintal “Mike” Tamano, who himself was a reputed statesman, and Hadja Putri Zorayda Abbas of Lanao del Sur and Jolo, Adel (which means “lover of justice” in Arabic) brings to the University an impressive parentage, backed up by good exposure to rich cultural experience from his studies on home grounds as well as foreign shores, earning for him a Master of Laws degree from Harvard Law School (2005) a Master’s degree in Public Administration (University of the Philippines, 2003) and Juris Doctor (Ateneo de Manila University, 1996), and Economics degree (Ateneo de Manila University, 1992).

Family Man and Educator
With almost 10 years of teaching in several reputable schools in the country, Adel also has passion for writing evidenced by the law textbooks he has written and articles he has published in Law Journals and local broadsheets. Adel has caught the attention of the public as the Spokesperson of the United Opposition during the 2007 national election.

Happily married to Rowena, a lawyer herself and Senior Vice-President in an International Bank, the couple has two sons, Santi (5 years) and Mike (2 years).

President Adel has attracted an awed following of officials, employees, faculty and staff whom he has started infusing with a new perspective in running his new sphere of responsibility that would deserve its reference as The People’s University. His visibility within the campus grounds as he embarks on an ocular inspection of the University premises elicit the attention, even adulation, of both the young student population and the more experienced faculty and staff.
