The PLM curricula, from the licensure programs to minimum course requirements, are based on the prescribed curriculum of the Commission on Higher Education, but the PLM education system exercises full autonomy to alter or enhance its own curricula to maintain the primacy of its excellence.
The various colleges offer degree programs based on the curricula proposed by the PLM faculty. Usually, the programs require the teaching of the courses of study by leaders in the business or industry and the conduct of actual field exposure. The participative involvement of practitioners in the formulation of the courses of study is reflected in the skills-oriented, community-directed and value-driven curricular programs of PLM. In 2004, the University's Medium-Term Development Plan mainstreamed into the PLM education system some innovative programs and best practices as articulated in the academic programs that are market-based and more responsive to the industry needs under an open global economy set-up. This direction enhanced even more PLM's powerful name and brand equity as a leading scholars' university, whose excellence the CHED has acknowledged as "beyond reproach and a class by itself." In due recognition, the finest and cutting-edge companies look at PLM graduates as a regular top preference since the last decade in their personnel hiring.
National Service Training Program
The students are also required to attend four Physical Education classes, and a choice between the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) under the Department of Military Science & Tactics (DMST) and the Civil Welfare Training Service (CWTS) under the National Service Training Program (NSTP). The PLM ROTC Unit has been consistently hailed by the National Capital Region-Regional Community Defense Group as one of the most outstanding ROTC units in the Philippines.
