Cory Aquino building inaugurated

08 October 2009

PLM inaugurated its newest building and formally named it in memory of a distinguished PLM alumna, Corazon C. Aquino on Thursday, 08 October 2009, 3:30pm.
Popularly known as Cory Aquino, she is an endless icon of democracy in the country, a beacon of peaceful revolution on earth, a president of a unified country that was once in deep turmoil, and the leading figure of a liberator from oppression in modern times.

Previously referred to as Gusaling Intramuros, this imposing edifice along the main street of Intramuros is a lasting tribute, fitting as it is, to a popular and well-loved president of the Philippines and a doctorate degree holder from this University who recently succumbed after a long battle with colon cancer. Her passing has resurrected the famed "Cory magic" which continues to unify the country, as a mother and iconic figure, even after her death.

Mrs. Aquino received her Doctor of Public Administration degree (honoris causa) from PLM as approved by the Board of Regents thru Resolution No. 1745 dated 27 May 1994. As a public institution founded on social justice, PLM shares the democratic views of the country's liberator from martial rule.

The inauguration was led by no less than the former President's daughter, Ms. Victoria Elisa "Viel" Aquino-Dee, and the Mayor of the city of Manila who unveiled the markers in and out of the building. Mayor Alfredo Lim and PLM President Adel Tamano extolled the virtues of the former president as a leader and statesman, and emphasized her role in restoring democracy in the country.

Another Aquino daughter, Maria Elena "Ballsy" Aquino-Cruz, also represented the family.
