14 March 2014

Junior Social Work scholar Rednaxela R. Calderon won the top prize in the Rotary Global Essay Competition (ROGEC 2013) in the Group II category. A Nigerian and a Russian Federation joined her as second and third placers, respectively, in the category for 18-30 years old essayists. Group I was for those below 18 while Group III was for those older than 30.

The winners were chosen from among the thousands of essay entries worldwide.

Calderon subsequently won the Regional Best Essay (best essay for the East Asia & the Pacific) with only three (3) other prize winners from the earlier 3-group categories advancing to the said award. Each of the seven (7) regions had a winner in this major award class. She is one (1) of the only two (2) category top winners to be proclaimed winner under the Regional Best Essay competition.

Awarded with a 5-day all-paid trip, Calderon will fly in to Pune, India to attend the awards ceremonies to receive her prize, trophies and certificate. She will interact and exchange ideas with fellow global winners, leaders and experts, as well as visit places of interest.

Calderon represents the Rotaract Club PLM Chapter and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Intramuros. She received her awards notification on 31 January 2014, a few days after the winners of the separate awards were announced a few days prior.

The ROGEC 2013 is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pune Katraj, India.
