PLDT-Smart, One Meralco foundations okay MVP Legacy Centers

Technohub showcase to rise in PLM

2015 July 27

The PLDT-Smart Foundation and the One Meralco Foundation have jointly approved the general implementation plan for the utilization of the P20-Million donation pledged by PLDT chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan. The project series shall be known as "MVP Legacy Centers."

In the pipeline are proposed projects focused on Engineering and Architecture laboratories, Gymnasium, and the MVP Ideas Space techno hub showcase open to all students as an incubation for innovative technopreneurship.

Speaking before the graduating class on April 13, the business magnate made the surprise commitment before an awed audience. This is on top of other services that his group of companies may provide which he cited in his commencement speech.

Last May 6, PLM president Dr. Ma. Leonora V. de Jesus, through PLM Administrative Order No. 2015-20, created the Committee on MVP Donation headed by CET dean Clydelle Rondaris.

CAUP dean Gil Evasco, member of the Committee, assured that the concept of "adaptive reuse" will be maintained, where the historical significance of the external structures are conserved, while the functional internal spaces are configured to cutting-edge technology.

In a meeting with the MVP foundations last July 9, the Committee presented its detailed project plans and specifications. PFMO chief Karen L. Leyson, also of the Committee, helped prepare the cost estimates for civil and rehabilitation works.

Ma. Esther O. Santos, president of PLDT-Smart Foundation, and Jeffrey Tarayao, president of One Meralco Foundation, agreed with PLM's recommendation that both Foundations handle the donation for purposes of transparency, control and proper disbursement. Instead of a direct cash donation to PLM, the Foundations shall manage the funds, including the procurement and construction through their accredited suppliers and contractors.

The Foundations have volunteered the free professional services of their experts in an advisory capacity. They are set to conduct a site visit on the first week of August to inspect the locations for the MVP Legacy Centers and discuss how to proceed to the next stage.
