With assistance from the University of the Philippines (UP), students of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) will soon be enrolling their classes online. UP and PLM signed today, 8 September 2015, a Memorandum of Agreement that will allow PLM to use UP's Computerized Registration System (CRS).
The CRS of UP is a computerized system for enrollment of students that also functions as a repository of the academic records of the students, including information on the classes they have taken and the grades in these classes.
UP is now shifting to a more extensive and fully integrated information management system in all its campuses across the country as part of its strategic thrust towards administrative efficiency and operational excellence.
However, because the CRS is a useful standalone registration system, UP President Alfredo E. Pascual decided to make it available for use by other higher education institutions as a public service initiative. PLM will be the first beneficiary and PLM's experience in customizing the CRS could facilitate its further adoption by more public colleges and universities.
The UP Manila version of the CRS was chosen to be granted to PLM as it was deemed most compatible with PLM's requirements. UP Manila Chancelor Carmencita D. Padilla has welcomed the opportunity to share this valuable resource with its neighbor university in Manila.
Under the new leadership of President Ma. Leonora V. de Jesus and Board of Regents Chairman Benjamin E. Diokno, PLM has launched a program to computerize enrolment and the CRS is expected to boost the effort.
PLM was created by the Philippine Congress by virtue of Republic Act No. 4196 in 1965 and is one of the top public universities in the country with very strong performance in various board exams. It was ranked 4th among all medical schools in the recent medical board examinations with a passing rate of 98.67%.
As the national university, UP has been strongly assisting public universities under the administration of President Pascual. Under its charter (RA 9500), UP is mandated to perform its distinctive leadership in education, research and public service. Incumbent in these functions is the responsibility of the UP to extend its expertise to other state universities and colleges, particularly in areas where the university has expertise and qualified personnel.
The memorandum of agreement was signed by UP President Pascual and PLM President De Jesus in the presence of Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada, university officials from UP and PLM, as well as members of their faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
