PLM gets 100% passing rate, holds recognition rite for MD board passers

2019 September 25

Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) once again came out as a top performing school in the 2019 Physician licensure exam, a distinction it shares with Ateneo de Manila University and the Cebu Institute of Medicine.

On September 20, 2019, PLM held a recognition rite to honor its new doctors. The short activity, led by PLM President Emmanuel Leyco and College of Medicine Dean Angeline Alabastro, mobilized the PLM community to congratulate the 103 board passers on the same morning the results were released.

The new doctors attended a thanksgiving mass at the Divine Teacher Chapel. Then they proceeded to University Activity Center, where they were warmly greeted by President Leyco, Dean Alabastro, Assistant Dean Teresita Cadiz-Brion and the management team, as the faculty, staff, and students applauded.

PLM garnered 100% passing rate in the physician board exam. The national passing rate is 84.94%. Out of a total of 4,716 examinees, only 4,006 passed.

This marks the fifth time PLM received a 100% passing rate in 2019. The university had similarly impressive results in the board exam for architects, electrical and mechanical engineers, physical therapists, and now, physicians.

In his congratulatory message, President Leyco shared news that would benefit PLM's doctors and students of medicine. "The City of Manila has plans to build a new state-of-the-art Ospital ng Maynila and convert current hospital into the new home of our School of Medicine and Allied Health Science. There, you will have an office to see your patients," he said.

President Leyco also encouraged the new doctors to help address the country's public health concerns as he said that "the 103 new doctors could go to the most remote areas where their services are needed or to different hospitals, and foreign countries to train or specialize". He continued "I believe that once you return, the people could only benefit from their acquired expertise.

Dr. Mara Magno, representative of PLM's Class of 2019, expressed her appreciation of the surprise recognition rites. "Thank you, PLM, for this blessing and surprise. We didn't expect your welcome would be this warm. Thank you also to the College of Medicine, faculty, administrative staff, Student Council, and entire PLM community. We hope that this (achievement) will continue. Laban, Pamantasan!"

Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila is a premiere university that has consistently garnered a 100% passing rate in licensure exams. Since 1965, it has produced competent and socially responsible graduates who have contributed to nation-building. For more information, visit plm.edu.ph. #
