PLM College of Law to receive 2 awards

2016 November 08

For the second consecutive year, the College of Law of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila will be recognized as one of the country's top-performing law schools for its successful efforts to enhance the study of the legal profession and, at the same time, to provide quality education to underprivileged but deserving law students.

On Friday, Nov. 11, the university will receive from the Legal Education Board (LEB) the Certificate of Academic Recognition with trophy for being among the 15 Highest Ranked Law Schools in Overall Passing Rate, and the Certificate of Merit for being among the 15 Highest Ranked Law Schools in the Passing Rate for New/First-Time Examinees. In 2015, the PLM College of Law ranked ninth in terms of passing percentage rate among the country's law schools.

The two awards will be given to PLM for having adequately performed within the parameters of the Board's legal mandate alongside the other top law schools of the country, said LEB chairman Atty. Emerson B. Aquende. The Board supervises all law schools through Republic Act No. 7662, the Legal Education Reform Act of 1993, to prepare students for the practice of law and for the continuing legal education of practicing lawyers.

In honing the competence and proficiency of its students, PLM College of Law Dean Marisol Anenias pointed out that the College is one of the law schools practicing the Moot Court system as part of its Juris Doctor curriculum. The Moot Court is a teaching method that requires law students to analyze and argue both sides of a hypothetical legal issue using various procedures.

The course includes the Legal Internship Program which aims to immerse students to actual legal problems on the field to impart to them the long-standing principle adopted by the College, Lex Ad Bonum Publicum, the law for the public interest.

PLM will be conferred the twin awards during the seventh anniversary celebration of the LEB on Nov. 11 at the New World Manila Bay Hotel in Malate. To be hosted by Dean Anenias, the affair will be attended by legal luminaries from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, the Philippine Association of Law Schools and the Philippine Association of Law Professors, law practitioners and law students.
